  5. Hi Nigel, This is an interesting thread as it describes what I think almost every investor from HK goes through at some stage and it's just the not knowing that really makes it an uphill struggle. There are definitely options for you as an Expat in terms of finance and there are definitely options in terms of building a network or better still utilizing someone else's from HK. But the key will be to connect with someone you trust on the ground in the area you are looking for. The other thing is to get clear on your goals for your investments. Is it cash flow or growth? Do you ne
  6. Hey Dan, great to have you on board! Seems the forum is slightly quiet but I'd be happy to chat all things property!
  7. Hey Simon, I'm based in the NW! Happy to to help and answer questions if you have anything specific?
  8. Hi everyone, This post topic is a little old now but I thought I'd respond anyway. Some great advice by Nathan above. To introduce myself I am a chartered accountant by trade run two property based businesses in the UK. I have dealt with a number of investors based in HK over the last 12-18 months and can totally relate to some of the problems you guys face when trying to invest from abroad. Fear not though, it can definitely be done and is worth the effort as I'm sure you've worked out as you've come as far as posting on this Forum. I would definitely suggest investing inside
  9. Hey Chris, it's Chris here too! Just thought I'd reach out to say I've worked with many investors in HK and can totally relate to the challenges that come with investing from abroad. Great that you've got a bit of a game plan to kick on with investing. How have you got on since posting this in May. Have you decided what direction you are wanting to go in terms of location etc? Hope all is well, cheers Chris
  10. Hey Raymanlam, The good thing is for a "newbie" as you stated, you are asking all of the right questions. Lenders will sometimes state that you can't rent to a related party. Whether they mean an actual blood relative is another thing though. I have had it in the past where a joint application between myself and my girlfriend (for a buy to let mortgage), was questioned as to whether we were just using the mortgage for "backdoor residential" and intended for her to live in the property. Which was madness considering we live in a separate property together and the property in question for t
  11. I think rather than using Viewber you are better off trying to make a trusted contact on the ground in the areas you are looking at. Viewber can work, but nothing beats someone you know and trust and have built a relationship with. How long have you been investing?
  12. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows how to dig deeper into nationwide (or similar) price index data. I've done some research following the recent podcast on growth in each phase of the cycle, but would like to go deeper. I'd like to analyse the South West in more detail, particularly Devon (Exeter,Plymouth)? Does anyone know how i can get my hands on the data for this specific area? Thanks Chris
  13. Hi guys, does anyone one want to set up a South West private message group? It could be used for everything from deals we find that we wish to sell on tonadvice for current situations we find ourselves in? Let me know, I’d be happy to set up a what’s app group. cheers chris
  14. Hi Rob & Jo! Interesting to see you haven't come across many South West investors (although I appreciate this is an old thread). Has this changed nowadays? Have you any tips for South West investors? I’m based in Devon and as it’s difficult to find the same level of opportunities down here I’m looking at investing further north. Yorkshire is a target for me considering the growth potential in the second part of the cycle. However as as this is my first investment property, I’m slightly nervous on investing somewhere that is a 5-6 hour drive from where I
  15. Hi Steve, slightly late to reply ply to this but I’d be keen to have a chat about the all things Yorkshire. I’m at the start of my property journey (remortgaged my home to finance my first investment). im based down in Devon and the opportunities are a little harder to come by down here. if you want to get in touch then my email is Chris_streeter@hotmail.co.uk. also as a spreadsheet man, I’d love a copy of the workbook you out together! Hope to speak soon, chris
