Manchester Tradesperson / team required
dhirenmakhecha_gmail_com posted a topic in Contractor Advice
Help required please. Just made my first purchase in Manchester in the Whalley Range area. I've bought a one bed flat which is a 1970's build purpose built apartment. I need a bit of work carried out on the place, nothing too substantial, but enough that I'd want someone / a team that know what they're doing. Main jobs are: - light fittings changing - walls lightly reskimmed / smoothed out where required - plasterboard some ceiling areas - new bathroom suite fitted and tiling Should be maximum 7-10 days labour at a push based on previous renovations I've done down south. Can anyone recommend any decent tradespeople in the Manchester area? I've had a couple of quotes using mybuilder and rated people and the cost of trades was coming in over double what I've paid down south in the past - I wonder if that's because there's more competition / Eastern European labour available in London? Would really, really appreciate any leads. Thanks in advance guys!- 3 replies

Hi all, I first subscribed to the Hub in December and only just got round to the forums as I've been listening to the podcasts and reading Beyond the Bricks - twice! Not to mention the new magazine which is FAB. My Other Half (Nige) and I have been learning about property investment for a few years now but lots of family "stuff" has got in the way and meant we just haven't been able to get serious about it, although things are changing for the better now so we are getting our strategy together. My background is 20+ years in engineering bossing blokes around (always fun), and then I retrained and became one of the very few (1-2%) female plumbers in the UK. I also do general handyWOman(!) work and help to co-ordinate other trades (just more bossing-about really!). So this is going to be mega-useful when it comes to doing refurbs/flips, which we hope to concentrate on to start. I am happy to help if I can with advice on any plumbing issues, so please ask! Hi Originally from the North West but also spent time as a kid in North East but then lived and worked in Birmingham & London before stints in Hong Kong, Malaysia & now Singapore Dabbled in BTL for quite a while but never had the time to take it seriously while building a more conventional corporate career. Set myself a goal of making time in 2015 and now moving from the early research phase into more serious planning and then action later in the summer. Many questions still to be asked re location, tax, building a team, financing, flipping vs BTL or combination of the two etc etc. Looking forward to meeting up with a few of you at the PH Summit in London on 26th July. In the meantime, does anyone out there have good knowledge or contacts in the Banbury/Bicester (M40 J10-J6 corridor) for Agents, Auctions, Trades, Solicitors etc Similarly If any of you have any questions re Singapore or Asia in general I'll be happy to help if I can - but don't look at the property prices in SG - it'll make your eyes water ! Tim
