charles d 10
Hi All, Myself and my wife have a joint mortgage for a flat purchased from a local authority, therefore it is a leasehold. It was purchased in her maiden name and she has recently updated her details to her married name. Our Mortgage 2 year fixed period is coming to an end. When applying for a re-mortgage do we need to inform the council to update any details in relation to the property as the mortgage application will be in her married name now. If anyone has any hints or tips in this area please let me know. Your help and advice is greatly appreciated Link to post
Stuart Phillips 254
If you own the leasehold outright then no. If its shared owenrship they yes you would. For the mortgage just do that in joint married names and provide a marriage certificate. The solicitor will register the title in joint names, although there might be a small surcharge for this. Otherwise its fairly simple and painless. We have the leasehold for the property and in this case the local authority is the Freeholder. So there is no need for us to update the names on land registry documentation? Link to post
Stuart Phillips 254
You would want to yes, but it will be handled when you remortgage as part of that process. You apply for the remortgage in joint married names Recieve a mortgage offer in those names Solicitor then repays the old mortgage, draws down the new and at the same time will update the land registry with the correct names too (because they need to match the mortgage) Stuart Phillips Independent, Whole of Market Mortgage Broker AALTO Mortgages Ltd Web www.aaltomortgages.com Email sales@aaltomortgages.com Call 020 7183 1101 Link to post
