Microsoft Excel

Recommended Posts

Come on then whizz kids, how is it done!?

I can use excel pretty well but really want to learn how to make the most of the toolkit.

I can look up how to videos etc for areas I know I want to learn. But is there anything anyone would recommend that teaches excel well?

Im sure there’s plenty I don’t even know exists that can be done with excel.

Thanks all

I'd recommend some of the online courses from places like Linda, which is Microsoft i think. Its not too expensive and the courses are really good quality especially if you want to learn Microsoft//Google/Amazon/Adobe apps, programming, marketing platforms and online advertising etc.

From there much of what ive learned is from having a problem i want to sove and googling for a tutorial to see how that particular function actually works in practice. I run the example through, play with it and then see how i need to adapt it to solve my particualar problem. I might even post something in a tech forum if its particularly elusive and then you get the experts coming out to show you the better, more sensible ways of using the tools. Bit by bit you start to understand what the toolset does and where excel shines and where other solutions are better.

Learning Pivot tables is really helpful. If you have a big data dump from somewhere online and you want a particular view on that data (ie what was the profit from x product over y product sorted by customer type last year compared to this year). Its not complex, its just not intuitive.

When I 1st started using Excel (20 years ago!), Microsoft training was terrible. That's really changed over the past few years - they have some terrific articles and videos on their website. I suggest to exhaust all of the free resources on the Microsoft website, and then see if you need to know any more. View the links below

Hi Jayw

To add to the above, there's loads of free Excel courses, with a variety of levels, on Udemy - https://www.udemy.com/topic/excel/free/

Otherwise, there's always Google/YouTube if you have a specific problem or issue within Excel you're trying to resolve.
