Let's talk KITCHENS - Who do you use and why? ....

Recommended Posts

I am currently using MAGNET and get good discounts so a full kitchen 12-14 units with cooker/oven/hob and sink/taps etc is around £2k-£2.4k for their Tatton range + VAT. But I am looking for alternatives and would love your experiences and average pricing from:

- Howdens
- Ikea

Any others??

howdens was brilliant for us and I think with everything for 8-9 units came in under £2k. Personally I have found that the trades like magnet or howdens as well , you can obviously get replacement doors easily as well, not so much with ikea

Used howdens a few times and never had a problem. Good quality. Decent price. Can't fault them.

Used B and Q once...will definitely be the only time too. I went based on price... yeah the old saying you get what you pay for is very true. Also if you have a problem it takes an eternity to sort anything with them.

I prefer benchmarx as its great quality and can normally negotiate a good price. Though recently I have done a few from wickes 'pickup and go' range as every few months they do a 20% off and then an extra 15% off for a Weeknd and I have the 10% off everything card as well. Got some cracking deals and the quality is similar to benchmarx as they are owned by the same HQ. It does tend to be a limited range so not a lot of fancy units but great if you want slab white etc

Agreed, avoid B&Q at all costs, terrible quality, cabinets, back boards, fittings, handles, doors and drawers all falling apart in our own property pretty much as soon as fitted. Awful customer service too. We'd had B&Q in the past and its been of good quality, they have recently changed the range and its all cheap crap, worst I've seen by a mile and we've fitted a lot. Will have to replace it when we can.

We've used e-kitchens on rentals and they've been good on price and so far the quality has been good. Pre built units too so avoid paying joiners to assemble flat pack.

7th Wickes kitchen being fitted this week.  The glossy Orlando, either white or grey, is modern and very good value.  The units are decent quality and the price, especially if you get it when the 15% off is on, is very competitive.  I also have the 10% trade card so even better.  I either get the worktop at the same time or use Worktop Express online, which again is good value with loads of choice.

Agree about B&Q and wouldn't use Ikea for refurbs/rentals.  Howdens good but not as good value as the Wickes ones we've used recently.  Can't comment on Magnet as never used them.

I use quartz for my kitchen and bathroom countertops. I first read them here  https://www.caesarstone.ca/blog/types-of-kitchen-countertops-design-ideas/ and changed my countertops to quartz. It's easy to clean up and the gloss of the surface doesn't fade easily. I chose Black Tempal for my kitchen because, for me, it looks like soapstone. Quartz countertops have designs that can look like natural stones but without the hassle of the natural stones.

Wickes ‘ready to go’ are perfect as they are benchmark under the covers so rock solid plus a combination of a 10% trade code plus 15% off regular specials means its a great deal. Alternatively Selco are good and if you are  a regular its pretty easy to get 10-15% discount.

On a BTL I typically get a good quality set of units for under a grand…

We've bought our last two from PWS and quality and price was great.  Base units were from Howdens. Also used benchmarx in the past and had no issues. I'd agree with the others about b&q, last time we bought from there the quality was shocking.

We only have one flat to rent  and that was only built in 2014, so we haven't had to do the kitchen yet.

My son however, has just had a new kitchen in his flat.  He got it from Wren.  He had about four cupboards,   two larder units, drawer unit, worktops, splashbacks, sink unit, sink, induction hob and oven and cooker extractor and it cost about £4k.  The customer service was excellent and the units seem fine.  They also came already assembled (i.e. not flatpack) so were much easier to install.

Wickes.  Have used them in every renovation I have done.  Simple, cheap, easy to get hold of.  TradePro 10% reduction and as someone has mentioned every-so-often they are reduced so if you get the timing right you can get them cheaper.

I always use the white handless ones, whether its a 60k rental or 200k flip.
