Share of Freehold?

Hi,

 

I am looking to purchase a flat that comes with a share of the freehold, however it also has a lease of 89 years unexpired. How are the lease terms decided if I get a share of the freehold with the flat?

I think you may well find your co Leaseholders also have Leases of 89 years but just have not 

got around to re writing new ones of say 999 years  -  Freehold Enfranchisement might have come

about not too many years ago. 

 

Prior to purchase you will presumably have a 'peek' at the existing Lease?
