TPP140:

Lessons learnt from running a letting agent

In the summer of 2014, we started a letting agency called Yellow Lettings. Today, we’re sharing the lessons we’ve learnt from the process so far.

In this wide-ranging discussion we talk about what’s happened, what we’ve learnt about property as a result, and the general business lessons that are applicable to property investment too.

Discussion points include:

  • The painful experiences we had in the early days
  • The difficult decision we made to reboot the business
  • What influences how quickly a property gets let
  • The most difficult aspects of property management…and some myths about tenants
  • Why having great people in your business isn’t enough
  • What we should have done differently from the start

If you struggle with concentration, you might benefit from trying brain.fm. It plays ambient music which it claims is scientifically proven to help you focus – and Rob D swears that it’s been working wonders for him over the last couple of weeks.

London is the most overvalued city in the world, according to a report by UBS.

The London market is on everyone’s mind, and there’s a lot more to be said on the topic – so we’ll be dedicating a whole episode to it next week.
