There’s a reason you can name at least three TV shows about property, and none about stocks and shares.
Property is an investment like any other… but it’s a heck of a lot more fun, isn’t it?
Everybody needs to live in one. It’s easy to understand. You can improve it, extend it, redecorate it… and it’s a lot more fulfilling than framing a share certificate and nailing it to the wall of the downstairs loo.
There are also lots of different ways to make money from property:
Sure – it’s hard work. But if you love what you do, it never really feels like work – and it’s a whole lot better than being stuck behind a desk or forced to work to someone else’s schedule.
On TV shows it’s all smiles as profit figures are revealed, and everything is neatly wrapped up within an hour. The real world is a lot messier than that.
However much you love property, the fun soon wears off when your project is months behind schedule and miles over budget – and while there’s big money to be made, there’s plenty to lose too.
You can never guarantee that you’ll be able to turn passion into success. But you’ll have the best chance if you build a strong network of peers who can help you out when you hit a hurdle, and educate yourself so you avoid the many profit-killing (and sanity-stretching) mistakes you could make along the way.
