Full disclosure, Sam actually works for Property Hub. He’s our Head of Finance, which means he knows a thing or two about money. But when it came to building his own property portfolio, he didn’t know where to start.
Fortunately, we could help.
Sam was a client before he was a colleague. But his story is one we see over and over again: a busy professional, earning good money, who knows they should be doing more with it, but doesn’t have the time or knowledge to start building a portfolio.
The challenge
Sam and his partner have two young children. They wanted more than just to follow the default path through life – they wanted to build wealth, so they’d have more flexibility and something to pass on.
But they’re also busy professionals who carefully guard their evenings and weekends.
They needed a solution that could help them to grow their wealth without becoming a full-time job. After some research, property became the clear choice. But there was a catch: they were starting from zero.
“We wanted options – flexibility later in life and a foundation to pass on to our kids. Property was the obvious route. We just had to start from zero.”
The solution
Sam’s first interaction with Property Hub was the same as many of our clients. He’d listened to the Property Podcast, he’d read our newsletter, and he’d begun to educate himself. And he liked it so much, he ended up working here.
After saving aggressively for his first buy-to-let deposit, Sam got in touch with one of our Portfolio Managers to help him put together a strategy to build a portfolio that matched his goals.
From sourcing the right deal to securing his unit, finding a tenant, and even appointing a letting agent – the team handled everything, so Sam could go from zero to investor without it taking over his life.
“They gave me what I couldn’t get alone – discounted deals I’d never have accessed, a trusted team of contacts, and support from reservation right through to completion.”
The result
Today, Sam owns two properties – a city-centre apartment in the East Midlands and a freehold house in West Yorkshire. And a third purchase is already in the works. He picked them because the numbers worked, not because they were down the road – and he runs the whole thing from his home in the North West without any issues.
Both of his properties are managed by agents, and both were fully let within four weeks of completion. That means he only has to spend around half an hour a month to manage his portfolio, so his all-important family time isn’t impacted. The rest of it ticks along by itself, building cash flow and equity while the market does its thing.
He still works with the same team that helped him become a property investor – only now, they’re his colleagues. With the foundations in place, Sam’s well on his way to building the financial freedom he always wanted.
“Starting is exciting and daunting, and the goal can feel overwhelming. But once you start, the path becomes clearer – and before you know it, you’ve made significant progress towards where you want to be.”
Sam’s story started with a single conversation. If you’d like to find out what a portfolio strategy could look like for you, book a free call with one of our Portfolio Managers today.
